What is an affordable gaming desktop?

What are the most cost efficient parts to build a mid range gaming desktop?

  • So I want to either buy or build a gaming desktop, but I know close to nothing about computers, which would make building it not such a good idea, but I also hear that building my own would be cheaper. Basically, I want to know what parts would be good, both in terms of performance and affordability, for a decent gaming desktop. A benchmark I would say would be playing Mass Effect 2 on max settings with no screen tearing and solid frame rates. Sorry for the obscure means of measuring, but like I said before, I know nothing about computers. My preferred price range would be $1000 and below, but with a $1200 max.

I do not game. I built a desktop about a month ago. It only has one GPU. A XFX 5770. I think, and I stress the word think, it would be a decent gaming rig.
