How hard is it to build a powerful gaming PC?
-
i am 14 and i just got my first laptop (13" MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz) i decided i really liked computer gaming and, as most people know, Mac's aren't ANY good for gaming. i was reading up on Gaming PC's (has to be a desktop), and i heard you can get a better (and cheaper) machine if you build your own, rather than buy an Alienware or something. i am very good with building and taking apart stuff, and i think im up to the challenge. my friend's dad is also a custom gaming PC builder so i could also go to him if i needed any help. i'd like it to be able to play Crysis on high settings Spec's i'd like Processor: Intel i5 Storage: 500GB RAM: 4GB...8GB if possible Graphics: ati radeon hd 5970 Cooling system: Fan based Body: Aluminum Drive's: DVD or Bluray (doesnt matter that much to me) Ports: 2 USB, 1 SD, 1 Audio In/Out, Ethernet, charging port can you please give me a rough idea of how much this would cost, and how hard it would be? Thanks =) oh, and one more question, would i be able to run Mac OS X on this? or would it affect the performance? Thanks

Answer:
It's not that hard to build a PC if you spend some time on Google and Youtube. I built my first PC when I was 12. The more you know about how computers work, the easier they are to build. If you want to install OSX on it you'll either need a patched version of OSX, or a PC with EFI instead of BIOS.

Agreeing with the above's, not any harder to build a computer than it is to drive a car. Just take precautions and know the rules. As for cost, use newegg, or google shopping for a list of prices from all kinds of stores.. I haven't personally tried it, but I heard somewhere that Mac's Os's will NOT work on PC's, but Windows will work on Mac's. Don't take my word for that, can't remember where I heard it and not sure if it's right. Best of luck either way!
The most difficult part to buy is the RAM, check the speed of the motherboard's bus, also the RAM votages needed by the motherboard, latency, maximum size, type, etc... The motherboard's manual should include this info, also the RAM's manufacturer offer info. The most important part is the motherboard because all the other parts depend on it's capacity and features.
Piece it together on Newegg or something and you'll get a price. Building a PC isn't really that hard, it's really just like a big boy lego set. You can try to run OSX on it, although it's not designed to, wont' work well and might not work at all.
well first right on mac user second i agree pc and building computers are easy to do it wouldnt be hard i build one like that cept with water cooled system and 8gbs of ram and 1tb or memory. but it should cost probally around 1000 or less just depends on what brand you get
