What is an affordable gaming desktop?

Where is an affordable gaming desktop that I could find?

  • I have decent knowledge of technology, I'm just a little out of the loop, as my previous desktop build was in 2009. I shop newegg, tigerdirect, directron ect. (don't bother sending me a link to alienware, dell, sony, hp, compaq) I want a complete desktop (possibly accesories) that can run both skytim and The Old Republic very well. If I'm not mistaken the requirements for these games are very similar with skyrim being a little better. I want these games to work very well and look awesome. My price range is 400-600. I understand that at this range it will be hard to find a desktop capable of running these games on max, but I believe it is a possibility. Any help would be much appreciated. If you can, include info on why your specific computer link is special/ a good purchase.

    the only way to do this basicly is to buy a stock model with a good proccessor and upgrade the video card and psu, which is not a hard task , heres a link to a decent desktop without video card (and note i have the same desktop with the similer parts im gonna reccomend which i installed and it runs skyrim well on ultra my budget was only bout 40 bucks more than yours so expect high setting) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Refurbished+Pavilion+Desktop+/+AMD+Athlon%26%23153%3B+II+Processor/3839651.p?id=1218436776016&skuId=3839651 with shipping that should run bout 420ish so heres what you can get for 180 video card: from ati- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161377 this is the radeon 6790 it is a decently powered video card which is bout 10 percent faster than the 6770 it packs a decent punch and provides most games high settings excluding battlefieild 3 power supply-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817822017 this is a 575 watt psu from diablotek which is a reasonably good company togethor this should cost right under 600 and would run skyrim on high settings, i figure this because my rig is the same but with a 600 watt psu and a 6870 which is only 10-15 percent more powerful than that and it runs ultra

the cheapest thing you can do for a gaming desktop is to build one yourself if you have the know how other than that you just need to look around. I used new egg when i build my desktop. you can build a good desktop for about 500-600 dollars. Just make sure the parts you are getting are good and compatible.As thrifty as building a desktop is if you don't know what to do it might just be better to buy one.If you know somebody that can build one have them help you. i like building a desktop because you can pick what you want.
