How do I programmatically change the label of a mapped drive?

There is an extra drive in my computer....has anyone come across a similar problem?

  • Dunno exactly what the problem is but usually I have 3 drives- 2 partitions of the hard disk and the other is the CD drive, but now there is an extra f: drive referring to the same CD drive. When I insert a CD, the label is shown by both the drivers(e:and f:) and the files in the CD can be accessed from both the drives. Recently I got a blue screen error and my virtual drive manager(I use daemon tools) stopped working saying that there have been a change in the hardware. I use windows vista home premium. Has anyone come across a similar problem? If so then please reply If anyone knows a solution for this then please answer....

  • Answer:

f: drive is usually a removable drive like a usb stick or a camera memory card or something like that... 80% of the time its something you plug into your usb port so check that and see if you have anything pluged in there.

Sounds like the Daemon Tools driver has malfunctioned. Normally, when you install Daemon Tools, you see an extra drive letter in your computer's drive list. This extra drive letter is there for when you "mount" a disc image (an ISO file). Normally, this extra drive letter does not mirror what is in the real disc drive, so thats why I'm assuming the software driver that Daemon Tools installed has screwed up. You should uninstall and re-install Daemon Tools.

are you saing there is another drive in your computer that wasnt there when you set up the comp in the beginning? that doesnt sound good

this kind of problem may occur when you're setting up the vista... try formatting the computer and set up the bios correctly...
