What is wrong with my Desktop?

Can someone tell me what is wrong with my desktop?

• I know this is difficult to write down, but, to make a long story short, My desktop went out months ago. It says either insert media disk or disk error. I tried putting it in safe mode and did not work, I could not even get launch start up screen to try to repair windows. I was never able to get updates or anything like that. I could not for the life of me boot up my pc. I have an acer desktop. 2 years old it is now. It did not come with an recovery disk, so I ordered one. That did not work, although I must have not been patient with the download. This was when I finally hooked it up again after months of frustration.Then, somehow, I got the launch start up repair screen and got that to work, but still was working lousy. Then I called Microsoft and they told me I might have a virus that blocked off the updates and downloaded this malware and it worked! I have virus protection, but I guess it sucks! everything was working fine for 4 weeks and then it crashed on me and sometimes I got a screen of blue that told me they shut Down windows to protect my pc....I have sometimes gotten the launch thing again, and did not work. I think the disk is corrupt! the repair processed failed! I then have tried the recovery disk, and get to the second disk telling me that it will underwrite what I have and get some type of error message! What could be wrong with my pc? I was getting updates again after I deleted several viruses.

  reinstall the operating system, should take around 45 minutes and a little longer for the updates.
