LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S problem?

My Lite-on dvdrw sohw-1633s driver is giving me problems. It shows up as a dvdrw drive when a dvd is inserted and it plays. But when I put in a blank dvd to burn, it shows up as a cd-rom drive and won't work. It also shows up as a cd-rom drive when nothing is inserted. What could be causing this? How do I fix it?

well with nero 9+ you select the drive type
