I just installed a new hard drive (k drive) is there a way to remove the old C drive and only have the K?

my computer keeps recognizing the C drive as the primary, and downloading new things to it, and running the programs from it, but i want to make the K Drive the new primary Hard drive, and remove the C drive completely out of the machine, its worthless.

Answer:
You can't remove the C: if it has the OS on it. You'd have to install the OS on the New hard drive(K:) and swap it with the old drive(C:) in the computer case. Then you'd also have to transfer all your data and programs to the new drive. Otherwise you would have to re-install every program that you use from games to antivirus programs. and if you do swap the hard drive the computer will by defualt name the new drive C: depending on other hardware configuration and whether you partition the new drive. You cannot change the drive letter on a boot drive. you could keep both drives and do a Master /Slave configuration and have both drives work in tandem thus having more space.

If there is any data on the C drive then save it. Then you would have to unplug the C: drive and possiblly set up the new K: drive as the master (If you are using ide technology).
I don't know exactly what you're trying to do but let me take a guess. I am assuming you wish to use this new drive(K) as your main C drive, and remove the old drive(c) from your PC. Right? If that is the case, then you will need to re install the OS on drive(K). There is also one other thing you can do. You can clone the old driv(c) onto new drive(K), then remove old drive(c) and boot from new drive(K). You can use a tool such as acronis or if drives are both seagate, you can use this tool: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools. Download the one that relates to you. Good luck.
