How to use my VGA to TV cable?

In my video card I have a VGA port, could I use a VGA to tv audio video cable to plug my computer to my tv?

  • now I am not good at giving descriptions so instead I will give you links to the items I am talking about so you can see what I am talking about, but they must be viewed in order to know what I am talking about. The TV I have I bought at Walmart and is the same one that is found here: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5633689 And the cable in question is this one which can be found here: http://img.alibaba.com/photo/52306528/VGA_to_TV_Converter_S_Video_Cable_RCA_OUT_Cable_Adapter.jpg I have one video card installed on my computer that has one blue 15 pin female VGA port on it which is what connects a computer monitor to my computer, the monitor connects directly onto the video card and another white port on the video card and I have no clue to what the purpose to the white port is but as of now I really don't care unless it can help me out here. other than that there are no other connections on my video card Now The question is: can I connect that cable to the video and audio jacks on the TV to my VGA on my Video card on my computer and use the TV as a monitor for my comuter? I know that I may have to purchase a cable with male TV audio video jacks at both ends for the cable to connect to the TV but I just want to know if the cable will allow me to connect the TV to my computer. I would like to know if it will work because I could save more money than going out and buying a new computer screen if this works. I already have one computer with one computer screen but another computer with no screen, but I would like to have me and my friend to be able to use a computer at the same time as I am(mainly so we can play multiplayer games together in the same room together), and no, please don't try to dive me away from trying to use m tv as a computer monitor because I want to use my tv as a monitor for my computer, because I've always wanted to use a tv as a computer monitor.

  • Answer:

Short answer is no. Computer monitors and tvs sync at different frequncies. Monitors 30khz and above, tv's 15khz. That converter cable will not work on a standard TV. What you need is a different graphics card which has composite(red, yellow, white) or s-video(little round black connector) outputs. If you are going to do that, however, I would just keep the card you have and buy a new monitor. A 22" LCD can be had for $200. This option would also give you a much much better picture. You could always try ebay or a surplus store fore an older graphics card with the composite or s-video outputs. maybe get it cheap enough to make it worth your time. Pat
