What is a good, well priced pc to buy?

Alienware to buy or not to buy?

  • I was going to buy a computer from alienware but alot of people from here have suggested me not to as there very over priced. Alot of people have suggested to buy the parts and take them to a local computer shop to build it for me and save atleast 30% if i had of bought it all from alienware. Someone suggested buy the parts from Egghead and Tigerdirect, but there both u.s sites, and im from england, anyone know of any good UK sites where they sell pc parts?

You will get a lot more by building the machine yourself or having a good techie do it for you - and it is not hard to do. Shop around for parts. There is no one best place to look. Use google shopping to look for the cheapest supplier for each part you are buying then look at shipping and see where you can get the best deals. The one shop that has been mentioned on here is cheap but just on one processor that particular shop sells for £149 I found it at another tiny shop in Rochdale Yorkshire at £120. £29 savings on every part of a PC makes a BIG difference. Ebuyer is not cheap generally - they want £157 for that same processor. You may find by looking at the shipping rates and prices you are better off buying it all at one shop but you may not. Lots of research is the only way to get the best deals. If you want help specifying the machine and finding the details drop me an email. If you're in London I'll teach you how to build your PC - save you going to the techie. Happy shopping Matthew Here are two that are always worth checking: http://www.scan.co.uk/ http://overclockers.co.uk/

They are right. Alienware, while they give you more style than anyone else out there, are notoriously pricey. Good machines, but for most people, not worth the extra money. You could go the parts-and-assembly route, but why? In the long run you will end up paying for tech time to do the assembly, the cost of the parts themselves AND you still need to get software. Personally - I would go with something in a basic clone, and right now you should be able to get a decent tower for a good price with software already bundled with the OS. Everyone is scrambling because of the holidays AND the faltering economies worldwide. Bargains are there to be had! You can then have the machine upgraded according to your taste and what you want to do with it. Buying a complete unit up front also gives you the chance to use it for a bit to see what it's capabilities are. You may find that it doesn't need much in the way of upgrades for a while. That, would give you the time to save up for future changes you want to me. Good Luck no matter which way to go!

Try http://www.ebuyer.com/ That's where I get my stuff from.

I would by a desktop PC from them, but not a laptop. If you are going to buy a desktop, it's pointless to buy an entry level model. They really aren't much better that a Dell or HP. I would only buy one if you are going to buy a $4000+ model and need the performance that it would offer. People don't buy a Maserati to drive their kids to school, if you know what I'm saying.

If your going to buy your own parts taking them to a computer store and having them build it would defy the point. o for an Alienware, that way even if your unsure of your 'stuff' you will know you are getting a good system. Anyway, the cases look insane.

Yes you are alot better off building the computer your self. I could build a much better computer then what Alienware has to offer for alot less money. You also might be alot better off going directly the the computer shop and having them help you pick out the parts and let them order the parts for you. Just make sure the Computer Shop has a good reputation because there are some out there that will try to screw you over.

The best place in the uk to buy online is aria: www.aria.co.uk They have very cheap prices and a massive range of computer parts; they have everything you need! They have very fast shipping as well.
