How do I get my desktop Icons back to normal?

Most of the Icons on my desktop and throught my computer are pieces of paper with the corner folded, and every time I go to open something it asks what program I would like to use to open it. Also it wont let me change the task bar color it says it's red but it's a light blue no matter what color I change it to. I have an ASUS with Windows 7 and an Intel core i5 processor that I just got at the end of December. Any help or suggestions is much appreciated. Thank you.
