How do I get sound back on my computer?

I've once again had to reinstall Windows and once again I have no sound on my computer. The last time, I found someone who was able to give me a step by step, full detail process on how to get my sound back that actually worked, but didn't save that site/info because I never expected to need it again. It will take me forever to look for a source I've forgotten the name of, so if anyone knows how to get sound back after Windows XP reinstallation through device manager, please let me know. It's simple, but I cannot remember how to do it. Thank you.

I think its because you have not install the driver programs....... To get sound back. Get your motherboards CD and install the programs required ( for intel it is realtek sound driver on the CD>Software>Drivers>.....)
