Should I upgrade my computer or buy a new one?

  • I have some old mdg brand computer with 2.8ghz celeron proccessor 2gb ram nvidea geforce 6200oc I already have as much ddr2 ram as this computer will fit (other two slots are ddr1 and I discovered only one or the other will work), pretty much the best video card pci will handle (still not good at all by todays standards), and now I want to upgrade the processor, but with the old 478pin the best I can get is a p4 3.4ghz and thats an expensive $100 for such an old piece of hardware, am I pushing this thing too far over its bottleneckage or would the upgrade give it some more life?

    Change your Video card to one or the other ; I am saying either DirectX9 or DirextX10 that will play (DX9). I reccomend Ati 4830 512MBDDR4.

i suggest you to go with a new one, whats the point of having a new computer, fast cpu and ram but old slow hard drive. also some old HDD make clicking noise. try to sell old one for something and get them all new

Sell what you have right now w the graphics card on ebay and you'll get about 200 dollars for it and then take that money and buy a rig with at least a dual core processor for normal computing use and it sounds like you use this for gaming so go quad core you love the difference

well by the "looks" of it, I would say go with the old since P4s are single core and, as you say it, pretty expensive. Most today's computers have dual quad or 8 if have Mac Pro. and plus upgrading an old one is expensive and computers are so cheap these days, when yo u buy a new one, it would seem like the old one when you first got it. I know its confusing so yeah that's about it.

You'd be best to just buy a new pc. By the time you try and upgrade you'd be out as much if not more $ than a new pc. And still only get a smidgen better performance that is not noticeable.
