How do I boot my computer from a disc?

Computer wont boot from disc?

  • im on a windows XP computer. recently i received a copy of windows 7 to install. in BIOS i ensured that the system was set to boot from CD/DVD but when i boot the computer it hesitates with a blinking "_" as if it is reading the disc but however it fails and continues to boot windows. i was thinking it could be the disc or the dvd drive but in the past i used the same drive to install a linux os and it worked fine. i have windows 7 on a pioneer DVD+R 4.7 GB and the drive refuses to recognise it. the dvd drive is a pioneer dvdRW DVR-160d. any help on this matter i accept much thanks

  • Answer:

Sounds like you burnt the Win7 disc yourself. You probably started with an ISO file. An ISO file has to be burnt as an IMAGE file to make it bootable. If you burnt it as a data file that won't work. Get imgburn and use the "Write Image File to Disc" option to burn the ISO to a new blank DVD. Then try to boot from the DVD. http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=61
