What kind of RAM do I need for a white MacBook?

What info do I need to have off my computer to know what kind of RAM to buy?

  • I'm going to buy more ram for my computer and I have no idea what kind to buy. The last time I got some I had to take it back because it did not fit in my pc. I have 4 ram slots total. Right now I have two sticks of 512 ddr ram. I want to get 4 gigs. total. Do you know what info I'm going to need off my pc to make sure I'm getting the right kind of ram? I'm trying to buy it from tirgerdirect.com so I need to be sure i'm buying the right kind. Thanks for the help

Go to crucial.com. There's an online tool you can run that will tell you what kind of RAM you need. You can also find better prices elsewhere.

here's a easy site www.4all memory .com give them the manufacture of your pc and the model no. very good site

you need to know what kind of motherboard you have and who made it...then go to that manufacturers website and find out what ram is compatible with their board...

This is not PC100 or PC133 RAM..that is SDRAM. Yours is DDR. Look at the information on the RAM. You want to look for informatoin like PC4200 or DDR333. Buy (4)1GB sticks or (2)2GB sticks of the same brand. Don't use your old RAM and just fill in the other slots. The timing will be off and the computer will spend more time synchronizing the RAM chips than enjoying your upgrade. Also, you need a 64bit operating system to run over 3GB of RAM. Windows Vista 32bit and XP 32bit operating systems will only use 3GB of the installed RAM. This includes your video card...so if your video card is 512MB...the maximum system RAM you can use is 2.5GB.

well you need to look on your motherboard to see if it runs pc100 or pc133. if it runs pc 133 and you put i n100 it will slow it down and if you install133 on 100 it will only run 100. that should be all you need to know besides amount of MB or GB. except that some compaqs need specific types of RAM

1. Crucial.com - put in your computer's model number and it will tell you exactly what is compatible and the max amount of RAM per slot 2. if it's a custom built machine, you have to find out what motherboard you have and check the MFG's web site for RAM info 3. Unless you have a 64-bit Operating System, you won't be able to get more than 3.25GB of RAM. 32-bit OS is standard and only recognizes a max of 3.25 although many computers max out at 2 or 3 GB and anything more than that would cause the computer to not boot
