How to turn off boot splash screen?

My PC will not boot beyond the Manufacturer's splash screen?

  • I am running a desktop PC using Windows XP sp2. Lately, I have experienced the need to reboot by pulling the power cord to get beyond the initial splash screen. The PC never gets to the MS Windows splash screen and I have no opportunity to get to the safe mode. It is as though the BIOS can not find the link to the Windows OS. After disconnecting the power once or twice, the PC finds the OS and completes the reboot process. Today I am not able to reboot successfully after 3 attempts. My PC did not come with a boot disk. However, I do have a set of installation disks for Windows XP that I purchased for another PC that I no longer use. Will I have to reinstall the OS?

  • Answer:

It sounds like you either have a bad motherboard or a bad hard drive. If it is a bad motherboard, reinstalling OS will not help - it is a bad motherboard. If it is a bad hard drive, you need new hard drive and this means the OS has to be loaded.

You didn't say who the manufacturer was so its hard to say what all your options are, your bios may need updating and/or your hard drive may be trying to die.You will probably have trouble activating xp that you used before if it won't let you go ahead and call microsoft they will help you with "activation". you might be able to repair the old install with the cd try that before trying new install. good luck
