What are videos editing software recommendations?

I need help upgrading my computer for video editing, also what software should I use?

• I have had this computer for a year now, and I originally set it up for video gaming. Now I want to upgrade it so that I can do video editing with it effectively. The kinds of videos I will be making is largely YouTube videos such as those done by "Ray William Johnson", Nice Peter, and Rhett and Link. I need help because I'm a complete novice in computer hardware and software so any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is all I know about my computer right now: OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1 Processor: AMD Athlom 64 Processor 3500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2Ghz Memory: 2048MB RAM Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT Audio/Sound: Realtek AC97 Audio C disk drive: ST3250310AS MotherBoard: A8N32-SLI Deluxe Power Supply: Trans World TW-400 (400W) I don't believe I can upgrade the RAM on this motherboard because all of the slots are taken up (4x 500mb) and the techs at Best Buy told me larger memory cards wouldn't be compatible with this motherboard? Anyway, like I said, I'm looking to upgrade to the best Video Editing machine and on a college budget. Prices for upgrades would be awesome, or if this poor old computer is a lost cause, some affordable alternate routes (different new desktops) would be just as awesome. ALSO, what are your recommendations are for a newbie in the video editing arena?
