Why can't I see the files from my external hard drive?

Windows cant find external hard drive. But Ubuntu can.?

  • I have a hard drive that windows cant find. It was an internal secondary drive. I took it out of my computer and placed it in an external enclosure. When you connect it to the computer you can hear the computers two toned connect sound and you will see a message saying the hardware has been installed. But it does not show up in explorer or disk management. It does show up under disk drives in device manager. It will also show up in disk management in my old xp laptop but it will not let me access it. The only option it gives me is to convert it to basic disk. I can run ubuntu from a cd and see it and access it and even transfer files to other hard drives. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

  • Answer:

What format is it? Windows can't access the disk unless it's in a format that Windows recognizes. - Dominic
