What makes computers run slow?

Why wont my computer run my games?

  • Recently I tried to install and play Crysis on my new computer but it would not start up for some reason. I tried Grand Theft Auto 4, Oblivion, and The Witcher also but they all gave me either an error or just refused to play. I don't know what could be wrong I bought them all on Steam so they should work right? Here are my specs. Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 Ram: 256Mb DDR1 Direct X: Version 9.0 I know alot about computers and I bought this computer for a great deal online. It only cost me around $1,500 and it said it was really good for gaming and other heavy duty tasks. I looked at all the specs myself and they look really good to me. I tried reinstalling Steam, Windows XP, and all the games but they just wont run! One of them says something about not having pixel shaders but I don't have them so it's just stating the obvious. I tried to download them online but nowhere has a free download for any pixel shaders. Also some of my other programs are being really jerky and laggy too and I don't know why. This computer is top of the line right? Thats what I was told and like I said it looks really good to me. It runs alot better than my old computer for sure but its still not doing what other peoples computers are doing. What am I doing wrong? My friend has the NVidia GTX 580 and MX 420 isn't that far away from 580 so it can't be that much older. He can run almost anything but for some reason it lags to even play a stupid flash game! I just dont understand! Someone please help! This just makes no sense to me! Ive toyed with this thing for hours and hours and I just can't get it to run my Steam games! I just thought of something. I've been looking at alot of porn lately. Do you think I could have gotten a virus and its keeping my computer from running at it's best? All the websites ive gone too are the same ones my friend goes too but he didnt get a virus! The things a man will go through to see some **** sometimes lol! Or maybe is it my hard drive? Do you think my hard drive could be messed up and its making my computer go slow? I dont play my Xbox 360 anymore so can someone please tell me how to take the hard drive out of that and put it into my computer so I can test it? I dont care if I void the warranty! Just someone can ANYONE please help me? I'm out of ideas and its bothering the CRAP out of me! I'm being serious ive gotten so mad at my computer lately ive seriously thought about putting a gun to my head! Please dont give me stupid answers! Be serious I need help! ):

I really hope you are just trying to be funny. If you are it is a poor attempt. If you are being serious then I would seriously consider retracting your statement about knowing a lot about computers. This computer was never worth $1,500 dollars, EVER! The graphics card and the RAM both need to be severely upgraded and the CPU is pretty old too. If you did actually spend $1,500 on this computer then I feel really really bad for you because you got robbed.

Looking at your specs you could get high settings on crysis, idk what these people are talking about. These specs are one of the best ive seen. Im with you on this one because it should run all modern games with no sweat. I suggest you look up porn on an iphone or get magazines. And also do a clean installation of windows xp. I wish you luck my friend who masterbates and good luck with your computer. p.s Is it a dell? Cause if it is, Fudge dell.

Apparently you don't know a lot about computers because you spent $1,500 on a computer that is severely out dated. Modern computers are on ddr3 ram yours has ddr1 from the late 1990's, the processor is single core and slow and the graphic card is ****. You can't even play crysis on even the lowest video settings. Simple as that. If You would have researched you could have had this computer for $1,500. Specs: AMD Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition Quad-Core CPU at 3.4 ghz per core Liquid CPU Cooling System 8 GB DDR3-1600 RAM AMD Radeon HD 6950 2GB Video DDR5 designated GPU (Graphics card) Asus Mo-Bo Gigabyte AMD 890GX w/ 2x PCI-E 2.0 x16 mother board 1000 Watt Power Supply 2 TB mechanical hard drive, with 64mb Cache, spinning 7200 RPM,reading 6.0gbs per second BLU-RAY Re-Writer, DVD±R/±RW Burner Combo Killer 2100 Gaming Network Card And lastly a a 19 inch 1080p moniter, key board mouse, and Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit all for around $1478.00 You mad Bro? :) P.S. the Microsoft XP Security pack 3 doesn' mean S**T! Your operating system needs to be 32 bit or 64 bit you can't even find that out now can you. Also the Nvidia Gtx 580 is a dual gpu card with 1.5 gbs of vddr5 ram yours is 10 years older 215mbs of v ddr2 ram and get a girl friend you chronic masturbater!

well. the problem is the video card. it only has 256 mb vram. and the 420 is a crappy one. get a 460 or higher for some decent gaming. and get one with 1GB vram or more. and that CPU is pretty old.... i am guessing you paid $1500 for that system 5 years ago then it was ok for that time. but now you overpaid by a LOT. EDIT: such systems sell for $300 now. if you just purchased it you got ripped off big time. return it if possible. good luck.

Your RAM is WAY too low! You need at least a GB of RAM to do anything heavy! Your GPU is nearly obsolete. GET A NEW COMPUTER! Also, never talk about your porn-watching over the interwebz, maybe someone important will see... and boom your life is ruined. Your system is not even close to 800 bucks. I don't really think you know that much about computers.

Your computer is not "top of the line," by any means and is pretty old. The P4 2.00 GHz processor is weak by today's standards, and that graphics card is 10 years old and can't come close to playing any of the games you listed.. Plus you need at least 2 GB of RAM. DDR2 (preferably even DDR3). Sorry for the bad news, but it's way past time to upgrade.

The video card is not cutting it. :-(
