How can you compare amd to intel?

What is the best AMD CPU's in the $100-200 range? How do they compare to Intel CPU's?

  • Im wondering what the best AMD cpu is for gaming that is in the $100-200 range. I was originally gonna go for a Intel E8400,but AMD is cheaper, and since it's my first PC i want to keep it cheaper. Also, whats a god motherboard for Intel+ATI or AMD+Nvidia?

    www.tomshardware.com/charts to see which processor is better. www.pricewatch.com to see the best prices. they usually beat newegg and tigerdirect. my recommendation would be the AMD Phenom X4 series or the AMD 64 X2 6400.

the AMD Phenom X4 would be good... but while amd are known for being faster then intel they also run very hot. The comparable intels run about 2x the price but are sturdier. Important.. if you get Amd... be sure to get the best cpu fan and a great case fan... as 200f in not an unusual operating temp for high end Amd.

But you better go for E7200 3MB L2 cache $125 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115052 Intel P35 is the best bang for buck, selling for under $150 or even $100. If you want to spend more, the X38 is better, sells for $200 to $250.
