How To Install Evdo In Ubuntu?

How do I format my hard drive and install Ubuntu?

  • I have Windows and I think I have a virus so I want to format my hard drive and install ubuntu. I just don't know how to do this and I'm not so sure about ubuntu (like will I be able to do everything I can do on windows on ubuntu)? Also after I install ubuntu I want to buy a router (any router) but I don't know if it will work with ubuntu. Which is a good fast router that is easy to install on ubuntu?

  • Answer:

I'd burn a live disk to run Ubuntu on before you install it- it will give you an idea as to whether you can live with it. From there- just look for a utility to format an HDD. Ubuntu is very easy and intuitive to install.

You have to make sure you are REALLY experienced with ubuntu, It can be very hard for beginners to learn a new operating system. Ubuntu is a good Operating System, But I recommend you doing a system recovery on your Win XP first before you try out Ubuntu, Because once you format your computer, There is no way of getting Win XP back unless you have a Install CD with a legitimate CD KEY. Starting a Recovery (How to do it) Turn on the computer and immediately begin pressing the F10 key repeatedly until a Recovery Screen appears. let me answer your question to what i know about ubuntu. 1. ubuntu is an excellent os but you must be a novice computer user and must know a bit about them google up stuff about computers you'll find heaps of info. 2. many programs that are avalible on windows might not be avalible on your ubuntu desktop but there are things like messenger and media player in ubuntu. yes you can do everything you can do on windows on ubuntu but you must know exactly where to download or buy the software from. lastly i don't recommend you use ubuntu cause you don't know much about computers based on your knowledge but yah you can give it a try. lets say you want messenger for ubuntu so then you'll have to go on google and google up messenger for ubuntu so then it'll come up wtih different types of messengers for ubuntu. lastly you can download ubuntu from the link below then burn the iso image to disk ( must have an iso burning software try iso buster) and then insert it in your pc restart and boot from cd then follow on screen instructuions to format pc and install. http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download hope i help. cheers! grisham

You can install Ubuntu 9.04 within windows using Wubi installer http://wubi-installer.org/ You keep Windows as it is, Wubi only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu. Wubi does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application. Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application. I just downloaded Ubuntu last week, yes it does everything that Windows does except the cost. I didn't have any viruses so have Windows Vista Hm Premium running along side Ubuntu. "Beryl.0.2.1/Ubuntu 9.04" on YA is really good for Ubuntu advice, when yr question is spotted am sure the link will be supplied or just Google it. I found out that Lufthansa Airlines & Johns Hopkins University use it along with a few others so it can't be that bad. It's free to download, but takes awhile (download overnight), it seems more user friendly too. Sorry, I can't advise about a router as I have a mobile wi-fi. Good luck I'm sure if you wipe the HDD & get rid of the viruses you'll be fine with Ubuntu.
