Computer suddenly wont play dvds?

Two possibilities: either the software you are using to play DVDs has developed a problem, or your DVD drive is acting up. You could install VLC. It's an EXCELLENT media player and plays DVDs just fine. If that fails to work, your DVD drive has failed--which is not all that uncommon. The optics might be dirty, but it's MUCH more likely that the "DVD read" laser has failed. A laptop DVD drive is about $75, a desktop burner about half that (or less). They are easy to install.
