  • Answer:

$629... you don't specify the details of you components, for example your VGA card, you just write NVidia Geforce 8600 256mb DDR3 PCI-E, this card with same type has different price depend on its features and what brand. for example Asus EN8600GT OC GEAR/HTDP/256M and Asus EN8600GTS/HTDP/256M has different price (about $30), and other is PSU 400W, what brand actually, EnLigth and Corsair 400W has about $20 different price, RAM has different price depend on brand and lattency, if you have best component with $629 then you have good choices... thats my opinion

Your friend is probably correct in that WoW will run on most any computer, so the main question is, are you really looking for peak graphics and framerates? If so, buy a cheaper computer that doesn't have a GeForce video card (opt for integrated graphics instead), and spend a little cash on one of the GeForce 9 cards, or even 8800's in SLI, I heard they are pure beastliness.

I don't reccomend buying one from Best Buy or Walmart...those computers are overpriced, come with lots of junk pre-installed on them, and tend to have cheap parts. The setup will definately handle WoW, dont worry about it. You wont even need to make any upgrades if your only concerned with WoW. You could build something similar/better than that for between $500-$600 though- If you can haggle the price down a little it will work good for you.

For 629$ you can build a computer 10x better than that, however it seems you aren't very fluent with computers, so that might not be an option. (if you are, go ahead and build one). Otherwise... the computer is fine, but if your going to upgrade your card, (the 8600gt is minimum these days), your probably going to need a new PSU too, so keep that in mind.

I don't know your location, but I live in Raleigh, NC. I bought in January 2008 a refurbished Gateway PC, similar with the one you r interested in. It has the same CPU, the same Graphic Card, a 320 Gb HDD, a 450 W psu, a similar DVDR, 2 GB ddr 2, Windows Vista Home Premium, .... u got the picture. Originally, my PC had an on-board nvidia graphic card, and it costed me 320 USD, wihout monitor. I purchased it from Tiger Direct. My advise is not to hurry, just shop arround. For that amount of money you should be able to buy one with a triple core CPU and Vista. Look for any deals on TigerDirect.com. Good luck!
