Should I buy a USB Capture Card?

Noob question about a Capture card, sorry for that...?

I have an EasyCap usb capture card. I have a few questions regarding this product. The thing is I already know how to hook it up to record from the xBox 360 with the AV cables and adapters. What I am trying to find out is if I can record straight from my TV to my computer and/or laptop. The description says record live TV in HD format. I was told at Best Buy that I need the AV cables, an S-video cable, among other things. If this is the truth (seeing as I am sometimes told non-informative answers by those guys) how exactly would I hook it up directly from my TV to my computer so I can record live shows (sports too)? Is this even possible?!?!
Answer:

You need a TV card or a Graphic Card with Video-IN. Yes those guys were right. If you have one of those above, you can record TV very easily.
