What's a good computer mic?

I have a little like, generic microphone that I'm trying to use on my computer. But It's not working!!!!?

  • Well, I have it in my hand. Looking at the two ports at the bottom of my computer. One of them have a tiny little picture of a mic above it and the other one has a little picture of a headset above it. I plug the mic into the one that has the little mic above it (they're also the same colors). Then after that I go to start>all programs>accessories>entertainment>sound recorder. But when I have it pulled up I'm talking into the Mic and theres nothing going on. So I went to start>control panel>sounds, speech, and audio devices. Raised all the volumes to the mics up and made sure that they wasn't on mute and still it just isn't working. Whats wrong. Does the mic just not work or something? Or is there something else that I might have to do!!?

    if you check yout audio settings already, then maybe its broken?. buy a new mic. if it doesn't work still then its your ports. thats the fastest and easiest way to troubleshot. buy a pc mic its less than $8. Just dont eat dinner tonight..

go to your device manager and find your sound card, then right click it and select uninstall, then go to action and select "run new hardware scan" it should find your soundcard and re-install your drivers....then try to use your mic....before that though make sure you have your mic selected as your input by doing the following.....go to sounds and audio devices, then click on the audio tab, now in the middle of this window it should have "sound recording" click on that volume tab, on the next screen make sure "mic" is selected and not "line in" or "Cd"
