How do I get my speakers to work?

How can I get 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers to fully work on Vista?

  • Basically I bought a set of Creative Inspire A500 surround sound 5.1 speakers. I have a Realtek High Definition Audio sound card, driver version: 6.0.1.5527. I used the Realtek HD Audio Manager program to setup the speakers and switched the configuration to 5.1. I then pressed the test button and I could hear every single speaker working fine. But when I went into iTunes to play a song it was only coming out of my front speakers and sub-woofer. I tried ticking 'speaker fill' on and now sound comes out of the center speaker too. But I cannot get the 2 rear speakers to work. Can anybody help me please? Thanks.

  • Answer:

Is iTunes the only application where sound isn't coming through all of the speakers? If so, check the playback settings in iTunes. Try turning off sound enhancer. If not, check the Sounds and Audio Devices settings in the control panel. In the audio tab, make sure the Sound Playback device is set to your RealTek sound card. And then click on Advanced, and make sure it's set to 5.1 speaker config.
