Where can i burn dvds?

I have windows xp and I can burn CDs CD-R but I for some reason can't burn DVDs why not? External DVD burner?

  • I have the Nero but nothing writes to the dvds i have tried dvd-r and +r. My Drive on the outside only says Compact disc and when i go into system info under DVD/CD-ROM it says COMBO IDE5232CO should i just buy an external dvd burner?

  • Answer:

Your drive is not capable of burning DVDs, other wise you would see a DVD logo on the front of the drive. Just replace the drive with a DVD capable one. They're cheap.

Not all DVD drives are DVD burners. You must have a DVD burner in order to burn DVDs. Combo just means CD\DVD ROM (which means Read Only Memory). I would venture to say your drive is not a burner it is just a reader.

Combos will play DVDs but not burn them. Either buy an external DVD burner or an internal if you have a desktop as they are cheaper. If you need advice on how to set it up post again. Good luck.
