Boot Ubuntu from a USB flash drive?
-
Ok, Ive been messing with this thing for hours now and Im about to lost my patience. I am trying to install Ubuntu on my computer along side windows. I actually already installed it at this point but it WILL NOT boot from my USB flash drive. Im using windows xp and Ill tell you exactly what I have done and tried. So I downloaded the latest version of Ubuntu from their website and also Ubootin to put Ubuntu on my USB. I ran Ubootin and let it do its thing to put Ubunto onto my USB. Then I opened up the USB, am able to see all the files on it, and I tried to open and run WUBI, at first it kept giving me an error saying "Windows-No Disk." After an hour I was able to learn that by disabling my card readers it would then work, which it did. So I finally got WUBI to run within windows and I installed Ubuntu alongside windows. It did its thing and prompted me to reboot my computer, which I did. It loaded straight back to windows. So I shut it down again, full shut down not a restart, and turned it on again. I went into the bios and set the removable drive to the top priority. Still loaded up windows. So I shut it down again, started it up again and this time I DISABLED every drive except the USB. Well I got it to not load windows, but no Ubuntu either, it just says "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER." So I shut it down, get back to the bios and load windows. I check my DISK MANAGEMENT from COMPUTER MANAGEMENT and it shows "Disk 0" which has my normal C drive and D recovery drive. Both Healthy. Then is shows "Disk 1" which is my USB, it says its Healthy(Active). So on a whim I check my Command Promp and go into DISKPART-->LIST DISK, guess what, only shows Disk 0. But it shows Disk 1 clearly in Disk Management, and I can even access the files through my computer. Help Please!!!!!

Go to the download section of the ubuntu website. Scroll down till you see instructions to mount it to a cd or USB drive. Download the linux mounter. Browse to the iso and use. it to mount it to your drive. Reboot your computer, press the f1-12 key your computer uses to go to boot options at startup. select your USB and press enter. once ubuntu is loaded you can choose to either boot from your USB or to install it on your hard drive.
