Can I use my Old Video Card with my new one?
-
I recently purchased a new video card for my computer. It was a vision tech radeon with 512mb and dual DVI ports. Is there a way of using my new video card with my old one. The original video card is integrated into the mother board, and after using my new video card I believe my original one is better. I would like to have my main monitor use the original video card and my second monitor to use the new video card. Is this possible? Graphics in photoshop slow down with my new video card even though I have more than the recommended memory to use photoshop...

Answer:
Generall it is not possible by default to use the onboard card with a slot card. Also you will run into trouble with a lot of PC machines not recognizing multiple cards if they are both pci on an older machine especially if they are not the same manufacturer. However, if your onboard graphics controller is superior to a dual output DVI card with 512mb then I assume this is a pretty big time board. You should probably check: BIOS settings to make sure you disable the onboard chipset to enable all your video processing power to be handled by the expansion card to see how fast it is really, also check your graphics acceleration either in control panel or using the software that came on the card's installation disc (such as catalyst control center for Radeon) and check the hardware settings there. I am also a bit curious as to what graphics slow down in photoshop since it is a still photo editor and therefore the pictures don't move generally. If you are using the timeline to make GIFs why not use Fireworks or something that was made to do that job?
