Can I connect my iMac to my cable box through firewire?

  • I want to view my imac on my tv so that i can watch movies that i downloaded on my computer on my tv. i dont have an hdtv so i cant get a minidisplay to hdmi adapter, but can i use firewire to connect my mac to my scientific atlanta cable box? and will it show on my tv?

    why cant Mac just add a freaking HDMI or VGA cable like any other normal computer... What you need is an adapter because they only have that "mini-display port." You can look at your TV and see what it has (HDMI, DVI, VGA, S-video, etc) and get an adapter for it.

That Firewire port will do jack squat. You just need a Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter. If you have a 2010 model iMac, then be sure to get one that supports audio as well as video on Macs so you don't need extra cables. Otherwise, you'll need a Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter and audio as well. If you have a way to get optical audio input, ie, an AV receiver, then get an optical TOSLink to minijack cable and use that. If not, a simple 3.5mm to dual RCA cable will work.
