Are SD/MMC cards the same as regular SD cards?

None of my sd cards can be formatted?

• i have a 4g and a 2g sd and i have tried two different adapters i can look and listen to all the files on them and my comp picks up the device, but it wont let me formatt or put things on the sd cards i have tried tape on the sd card, the switch is not on lock and tried to format through my phone,i've tried different adapters. I used to be able to use these sd cards befor i had to reboot my os. could this be the problem please help

  I may not be able to help and these are only suggestions. If they are high capacity, you need to install the file that will allow the computer to work with them. If you connect it to the computer and it is recognized, open my computer and left click on the device and make sure in the properties it is not set as read only, un check this attribute, then click apply or OK. I don't personally have SD cards that have switches. It it does not recognize the SD Card, leave it connected, shut down the computer. Unconnect it, boot back up and reconnect it. If it sees the SD card what happened is it got left in an open state and no computer would see it.
