Answer:
Hi hi, You do not need to buy additional programme at all, PC (microsoft) and Mac all support both traditional and simplified Chinese. But Simplified chinese is the easiest to type. First of all, Chinese (Mandarin) does not represent Cantonese, Cantonese is but a small sub-language group, commonly used by the immigrant in Northern America and a province in south China. Chinese (understood to be Mandarin) are used by 1.4 Billion Chinese in mainland China, Taiwan, (now also in Hong Kong, which was speaking Cantonese previously) and other southeast Asian countries. Now, you must understand that there are 2 different Chinese writing, the simplified version, and the traditional version. Simplified version are used in many nations, beside the 1.4 billion in mainland China, eg, Singapore, and Malaysia. The traditional Chinese are used by Taiwan, and HongKong (which is slowly moving to simplified) and of course, the northern American Chinese. To type the Chinese, the easier way is to use the simplified Chinese, which is using the 'Han Yu Pin Yin', which is toner. But the traditional version is using the stroke of the writing, which is far more difficult. As Chinese word is pictorial, you need to remember all the stroke to properly write it, and if any stroke missing, it will not form any words. But in simplified chinese, they are using the toner, and as long as you can read and spell the sound of it, and able to recognise the writing, you are there. I can read both Simplified Chinese and Traditional, and can speak Cantonese, Mandarin and Taiwanese. But for typing, I will choose the simplified version. I understand alot of people in North America use to type in simplified version, and use a programme to convert it to tradition version. Thus, in answering your question, normal keyboard will do, as most Microsolf and Mac word processing programme has simplified version programme in it, and all u need to do is to select them from the language function. Simple. 很容易, hen rong yi, meaning very simple. Cheers,
