Best graphics card for my single core, AMD athlon computer, for under $100? help!?
-
I need some help with my computer, it's running slow when I try to open videos and multiple web pages with heavy graphics. Since it's older I also have some compatibility issues. I'm wondering if I should get a 512mb or a 1gb card, and which would be best for me. I'm currently looking at some XFX cards, specifically XFX ATI RADEON HD 4650 1GB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card. Does anyone know if it would work on my computer? Any advice is appreciated, thanks. Answer:
The ATI radeon 4650 is a pretty good card. The only down side to the 4650 is that is recommends a 400 watt PSU which will bump the price up another $60-80ish. I put in a BFG 550 watt modular PSU into my HP computer and it barely fit into it. But basically with most good quality cards you are going to have to up the Power source. Make sure you get above 400 since that is the minimum. If you go higher then you will have room for expanding later on down the road.

Any single core CPU will more than likely bottleneck the system. I wouldn't even bother upgrading the video card. However, you have a PCI express slot, so you could upgrade if you want. You would more than likely need to upgrade the power supply as well.
Yeah, the 4650 Radeon would be fine. You have a PCI express x16 slot so it will be no problem As long as you have a decent power supply too of course System Requirements :Minimum 400 Watt Power Supply Requirement
