How can I use my second HDD as just storage?

So if i was gonna use and old IDE HDD to add extra storage to my PC how would i do it?

  • The HDD needs to be reformatted and everything deleted, it's full of junk. how do i do this?

  • Answer:

If its a External HDD then plug it in the USB and when it shows up in My Computer right click and click reformat. If its internal plug it into the computer and do the same thing but if your not sure if it has viruses i suggest you do it on another computer so you don not run the risk of getting viruses

Open up the box, find the wires from the mother board and power supply (usually, there is at least one empty plug on the cables from the mother board to the drives already installed; it's a little rectangular piece of plastic with tons of holes in it). You'll notice that the HDD you're using is plugged in as well; copy the way that it's hooked up, plugging the cables into the new HDD. You'll noticed that the plugs are notched, so you can't plug it in upside down. Turn the computer on. CMOS and Windows will find the drive. You can do anything you want from there; in fact, you can access the old information on the drive if it's in the same filing system. You'll be able to reformat it from Windows and your original HDD.
