What does a TV tuner do?

What TV Tuner card would you reccommend me getting?

  • Hi, Sorry if a question like this has already been answered but if it hasn't, then here's mine; My friend bought me a brand new pre-built PC for my birthday. I was planning to dedicate this PC with just playing movies/watching things like on a regular TV. The question is I have my PC now hooked up to a LCD TV monitor and was wandering to get a TV tuner for my PC. I want one that I can watch TV either when computer is turned on or off. This way when the comp's off, I can just turn only the LCD and watch from there if it's all possible... So basically I want a TV tuner that inputs the cable into the comp and allow me to watch on PC and also a port that outputs this to the LCD so I can watch on that without turning on the PC... and of course a digital ready tv tuner. I don't mind the price of it, provided that it doesn't look too outrageous or too much for little features. I also don't really mind if it comes with a remote or not... Oh yeah and I forgot one thing; if possible I could also record videos from it straight to HDD. Thanks.
