What kind of external hard drive should i buy?

okay so i need an external hard drive. one that can hold about maybe 5,000 songs and about 1,500-2,000 pictures. For a reasonable price, but i don't know how many GBs i should get. if anyone really knows anything that could be any sort of assistant to my predicament.
