How to get my USB microphone cable to work?

• Hey I have a Shure m58 and a XLR to USB cable. When i first plugged the cable into my laptop, it worked fine, until windows finished installing the drivers (about 30 seconds). Now windows just recognizes the mic as speakers and tries to play audio out of the cable (or rather sends audio out of the cable) Oddly enough, when i tap or touch the USB dongle end, it registers as a sound in the mixer. Its like it need to be told to reverse the signal (as in to use the microphone to get the sound rather than the usb dongle). Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling, enabling and disabling devices and all sorts. Im stumped! Can anyone help?

  that is rather odd but easily fixed get the cd that came with the mic and install the software it comes with this fix the issue..... failing that go to control panel speech and configure the mic if it doesnt show up. go to device manager and look for the mic if its under the speakers bit right click it and update the driver hopfully it will fix itself. failing all of that go online and download the right driver from the manufacturers website....
