How do I increase the FPS?

How much fps will increase in a quad core ?

  • i currently have intel core 2 duo E2180 @ 2.00 GHz and sapphire radeon HD 5670 1GB GDDR5, 3GB DDR2 RAM. but, soon i will be changing my processor to amd phenom II X4 840 or athlon II X4 640.gta 4 lags like hell in my pc. here is the benchmark log with my current system Average FPS: 13.86 Duration: 32.39 sec CPU Usage: 85% System memory usage: 67% Video memory usage: 55% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1440 x 900 (75 Hz) Texture Quality: High Shadow Quality: Off Reflection Resolution: Very High Water Quality: Very High Texture Filter Quality: Anisotropic x16 Night Shadows: Off View Distance: 10 Detail Distance: 10 Hardware Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise Video Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 5670 Video Driver version: 8.17.10.1107 Audio Adapter: Speakers (VIA High Definition Audio) Intel® Pentium® Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz the question is if i change my processor to the above mentioned processor will i get a fps boost like 40 fps on above settings ?

    Turn Anisotropic Filtering off, and same with reflection and water quality. Put it on low. You'll get 60 fps with distance of 4 with the above settings aswell.

lol, the cpu upgrade alone will give u maybe 5 fps at max. if u want to get 40 u need better gpu

First: you can't use an AMD processor in an Intel motherboard. If your PC uses an Intel processor now it can only use compatible INTEL type processors, you WON'T be able to install an AMD processor onto the board, period. Second, a quad core will increase FPS decently, but you may want to instead opt for getting a newer more modern GPU instead. IMO I'd want to get both, a new GPU and a quad core CPU (I3 or I5, I7 if you can afford it). Again, unless you plan to buy a new motherboard that uses an AMD socket you won't be able to use an a processor in the AMD Phenom family line.
