Tv digital tuner question?

Tv tuner card question?

  • If I get a tv tuner card can 2 different channels be watched at once? In other words, can my family be watching a program downstairs on the tv, and I can watch a different program on the computer on my room? Or does the tv tuner card actually control the cable box. Thanks for the help!

  • Answer:

Yes of course as long as its a different signal if you have dish or direct tv then you cant but as long as you have cable it will work just fine.

Depends upon how you hook it up. If you have cable and split the signal "before" the cable box you'll be able to watch a separate channel on your computer and the TV. Keep in mind that premium channels that require the box won't be seen on your computer since you've splitting the signal before it gets to the box. If you split the signal "after" the cable box you'll have to watch the same broadcast. (The cable box determines what channel you'll be watching.) If you want to see ALL channels on both the computer and the tv and be able to control them separately you'd need an additional cable box. Lastly, you could bypass the cable altogether and hook up your tv tuner card to a separate antenna to get free HD digital content. How close you are to the broadcast antenna will determine what kind of antenna you'd need. You won't get as many channels as you would with cable, but it's free. Of course the tv card must have a digital tuner which I think most (if not all) have these days.
