How do I designate a drive to download programs to?
-
I have an SSD with Windows on it and I want all my programs to go onto my HDD. I have chrome set to ask where to download things and some programs ask you where you want it to go (itunes). But others don't, like spotify. How the hell do I get Spotify to go to my HDD. I have limited pace on my SSD but it insists to go to there and doesn't ask me about it. How do I make sure programs go to the HDD? Preferably I dont want to have to unplug the SSD every time I install something.

That's a tough one.... have you tried just downloading it then copy pasting it to the drive you want it to go on, that seems almost the only way to do this. I tried downloading spotify and it doesn't ask like you said. Or perhaps if you made it so your larger HDD has the /downloads folder (full path would be like c:\users\USERNAME\downloads, where USERNAME is your accounts name and C:\ is the letter of your volume). That may direct automatic downloads to the appropriate drive. Then you can name the download path on your SSD to a DIFFERENT name like "SSD_DOWNLOADS", that way if a program asks you where to download it you can specifiy that download folder instead of the normal one (the one that should now be on your larger HDD). Just a possible option, may not work.

All software programs download and install to the hard drive does not matter if it is a mechanical hard drive or a SSD hard drive all you can select is the place and program you save files to like pictures, music, word, excel files etc. If you formatted the SSD with n=more than one partition then you can select the partition that the programs or files are stored on. how to save downloaded programs to the hard drive for windows http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=UTF-8&fr=ytff-&p=how+to+save+downloaded+programs+to+the+hard+drive+for+windows how to save downloaded itune music for windows computer http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oGdVhCVjdPiX4AoNBXNyoA?p=how+to+save+downloaded+itune+music+for+windows+computer&fr2=sb-top&fr=ytff-&type_param=
