How do I make my webcam work?

I got this laptop christmas of 2010 and It has a built in webcam but it doesnt turn on. I downloaded manycam and it said there wasnt a camera detected. Then i tried youcam and it said the same. My friend has the same laptop and her webcam works. She also said it didnt work for a while and she isnt sure how she got it to work. If someone knows how to fix it, please tell me.

Was there an installation disk that came with it? If not... Try going into your C drive and look up what your webcam is called, then see if there is any program in the folder to switch it on. Other than that I'm not sure...you'd have to ask the people who made the computer.
