I did get it to work for a second but then it froze, i was able to see all the files on the hard drive but then i tried clicking on one and thats when it froze. it would take a year for me to get back all these files and some of them i can never get back there were hundreds of GBs on there. it is a 1 TB Seagate expansion external drive. also when the power disconnected it fell off the desk, thats how the power disconnected. please help, thanks.

  • Answer:

Fell off the desk? Sounds bad. Something got seriously damaged when it hit the floor (bent read/write arm, broken circuit board.) If you power up the external hard drive do you hear it physically spin up or are you hearing alot of clicking... clicking is bad... you may have trashed your drive. - If you hear it spin up you may be able to disassemble the external drive case and remove the physical drive. Get a IDE/SATA to USB connector and connect that to the hard drive: http://www.macconnection.com/IPA/Shop/Product/Detail.htm?sku=7873592&cm_mmc=Google-_-Product_Ads-_-pla-_-7873592%26iprospect&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=7873592&gclid=CISPldWz4K4CFYoDQAodp1_-Zg

Try it on another computer first. If still no go try taking it to a repair centre. Maybe they have a way of getting it working again.
