Tv digital tuner question?

Question about my tv tuner?

  • i have the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600. i have a rooftop antenna and i get digital tv with the tuner. so no more static. the problem is, if the tv signal is weak the video and audio get jerky. i want to buy something to amplify the signal. can you find me somethings that can help? either for the rooftop antenna or a little one before the cable goes into the computer

  • Answer:

What you describe is typical of a weak digital TV signal. First try pointing the antenna. You may need a roter. Go to www.antennaweb.org and enter your address. You will get a list of local TV broadcasters and the direction to point your antenna. Once you have your antenna properly oriented, (and note, the best direction for analoge may not be the best direction for digital), Then you can try a good amplifier. Chanel Master makes some good ones. Amplifiers need to be placed at the antenna for best results.

Boosters never worked well, even with analog NTSC. Perhaps your antenna just isn't in good shape, and you could get a better signal if you replaced it? After about a decade, they start to oxidize and perform poorly. There's also the possibility that your twin-lead cabling is damaged from rough weather. If the whole setup looks good, you still might want to consider buying a rotater and a deluxe country-grade antenna with more spokes.
