How to upgrade a Dell laptop video card?

Can my video card be upgraded?

  • I've got myself a Dell Studio 1735, and I'm primarily using it for gaming and graphics art uses. It's got 4gb of RAM, a 2.5 or 2.6 ghz dual core processor, and a ATi Radeon Mobility HD 3650 video card. When it comes to art, the card is just fine. But when it comes to gaming, it's a bit lagging behind and I frequently get choppy frames/second unless I reduce the resolution and settings. So I'm wondering if there's an upgrade for the video card that I can get? I won't be opening up the laptop myself, foreign territory and all that, but I'd like to get as good a card as I can get that will fit into the system. Suggestions? Tips?

  • Answer:

No there is no upgrade possible for laptops. The video card is part of the motherboard and cannot be removed/replaced. Ever. Only thing you should do is make sure you have the latest driver fro it by visitng www.ati.com and going to the support and drivers section. You will be able to download and install the driver from there. Obviously it depends what games you are playing. Typically a laptop is not ever going to be as fast at gaming as a desktop with a big fat gamers card in it.

sorry but as of now, it is impossible to change or upgrade a video card on any laptop. Even if graphic cards would be upgradable, you would have to open up the laptop case.
