How To Increase Speed Using Modem?

Can I call Verizon to increase my connection speed cap of my DSL modem?

• For years now, I always used their DSL modem, but since times are changing now, and people are using 2 mb/s connections, my 125 kb/s connection isn't cutting it anymore. I built a gaming computer about a year ago, and since I passed the recommended requirements for all the new games that are out, my computer lags and skips frames on these games. After many posts on several forums and testing, I have uncovered the answer to my slow performance: My internet connection speed. If I call Verizon tomorrow, since it's closed today, will they be able to increase my 125 kb/s cap on my modem to a higher speed? If anyone did this with their modem or know anyone who did it, how much would it cost a month, and how much more speed will they give you? Getting FIOS or Optimum is out of the question since a tree hit my house a few years ago and messed up the wiring in my house. I now use a power source located on the side of my house and only a modem will work. I even called FIOS to install and they said they couldn't because of the wiring in my house.
