I Have an Acer 5920 laptop. My drive worked to install office 07 so whats wrong? Do i need to install a driver, if so what kind? Please help. Thanks in advance!

People have been having a sh*t load of problems after upgrading to 7. I suggest wipe it clean again and stick with vista for a few more months. By then MS will have more drivers available on their update page.

hi david by the sound of it theres nothing wrong with the cd/dvdrw drive however the problem may lie with the drives lens or more to the point its capability to read and write data and the good news is the solution is very easy and will cost you at the most a few quid and this will involve purchasing a cd lens cleaner or disk doctor,,, one of the biggest problems with optical drives is dirty lens, its very rare for the mechanics of the drive to fail..however the lens if not cleaned on a regular basis will sooner or later stop working the problem being is that a single peice of dust can interupt the normal working of a cd/dvd rom and cleaning the drive takes around 30 seconds..place a few drops of cleaner on the cd lens cleaning disk and insert into your cd/dvd drive..then follow the audio prompts ,,,this procedure will take around a minute at the most and once complete you can remove the cd lens cleaner disk also you need to clean all disks before you insert them in the drive....as this is another way dirt is transfered to the lens... good luck mate !

Go into control panel and device manager. Choose to update the driver.

Google the problem! [make and model of computer] will not recognise [make and model of optical drive] on Windows 7 and check the results. There could be a registry error - and if that does not work there might be some additional software that could help

Check to see if your computer even recognizes there is an optical drive attached. Go to Control Panel System Hardware Device Manager DVD/CD ROM drives Right click on the device for properties You can do an update driver at this point Is there an exclamation point on the device? That indicates there is some sort of conflict with the device. If "update driver" doesn't work, you should go to the OEM website and try to find a driver for your particular model. Hopefully, the model number is displayed in the device manager. If none of this works, you might need a new drive. SATA DVD burners are cheap (try newegg.com).

Have you got the disc that came with the laptop if you have use it to repair or reinstall the system,

go to the manufacturer website for your burner and look for a driver update. I wonder how you wiped everything by accident
