Why won't my CD drive work?

CD/DVD drive wont work?Help!?

  • My CD drive doesn't want to work anymore. When I put a CD nothing happens, the icon doesn't pop up or show in my computer, it doesn't read anything. I tried installing it from device manager and nothing changes. The CD/DVD drive says its a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-8225 with a big yellow exclamation mark. I have a windows xp IBM Think pad. The side where the cd drive is on has a green light. Please help. Do I need to download a new drive. Not very good with technology.

  • Answer:

The yellow exclamation point definitely means there is a problem, but the solution could be many things. There is such a thing as an upper/lower filter fix (which i won't get into the details about) which usually fixes the problem, but if all else fails the drive is just dead and needs replacing. Which of the two it is it's hard to say. You can take it in to a local geek squad for a free health check to determine which, that's always the easier solution.
