How do I add graphics to a video?

Can we add the on-board Video RAM with the Video RAM of the PCI Express graphics card?

  • I have Gigabyte motherboard with NVIDIA GeForce 6150se on-board graphics with adapter RAM size of 256MB. I also have a PCI Express Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT with adapter RAM size of 256MB connected in the PCIe slot. Now can we add both the Graphics Adapter RAMs (256MB+256MB=512MB)? Is there any possibility to add both the video Adapter RAMs like we add the usual DDR RAMs?

  • Answer:

I guess not, once you install the video card, the onboard video is disabled.

Motherboards are generally designed in a manner that only one works... either the PCI or the onboard graphics device... That 265MB is shared between the system and your graphics device whereas the PCI card will give you dedicated 256MB memory and all RAM will be allocated to the system for its use... so when you put in the PCI card you get better graphics and performance (since more memory is available).at the same time..

No, not with Nvidia. ATI does offer hybrid xfire on some onboard GPUs, but it usually ends up in a decrease of performance. Also, if you're running at lower resolutions (1280x1024 and less), you wouldn't see that much of a performance increase.

cant do that, most likely when you add the vid card the onboard video will be automatically disabled......if that does not happen you will have to get into the bios an do so.....other wise you would have driver conflicts.......scott
