  • I have a folder in my external HD that i would like to delete. However, I am not able to, whenever i try it's giving me this feedback: "Cannot delete file: data error (cyclic redundancy check)". What is this? Please help me delete these file. Thanks for the answers.

  • Answer:

The "cyclic redundancy check" means that the data in the file is corrupted. Run a "chkdsk" on the drive and let it repair any file errors and then u should be able to delete the file.

You could try using this program: http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ It deletes files and folders when you can't do it yourself sometimes. But you probably need to use chkdsk like someone else said.

get a file assassin software.. i use this one and delete stubborn files.

you hard drive is a acutally a disk, just liek a cd. Usually, when u drop this hard drive, the cd inside get damaged or scratched. so when u try to delete something, the needle on the disk is trying to find that file but the damaged wont let do cycles, (goes in circles till it finds it). now it cant delete it if it cant reach it. so this means that ur hard drive needs to be replaced. this warning could also be a hoax, u might have a virus or malware not letting u delete it, so u need to protect ur computer with antivirus and antimalware software
