When I delete a file, it never shows up in my recycle bin. How can I fix this?
-
There is an option that says, "Do not move files to recycle bin. Remove files immediately when deleted", but I never checked it, which means the files should be showing up in the recycle bin. I have some songs that I want to be permanently deleted, and I want to be 100% sure that they are out of my computer, which is why I want to see them in the recycle bin. After I actually see them in there, I'll delete them from there. I have never checked the box that talks about removing files without them going in the recycle bin, so I know that's not why it's happening. How can I fix this?

Answer:
To be sure that files are deleted permanently, hold down ctrl when hitting the delete key. This bypasses the recycling bin, and saves you the trouble of emptying it. (This is will be sure they are off your computer) However, it is possible to recover deleted files on a hard drive because the actual data is not deleted, just the reference to the data. To unsure the data is destroyed (deleted), you need to do a hard drive "wipe." See here for a free program that allows you to wipe your hard drive: http://eraser.heidi.ie/ As for your recycling bin not showing the files that you delete, there are two possible answers (and probably more): 1. There's a setting that will allow you to automatically bypass the recycle bin. This might have been set on your computer. However, to access this you need TweakUI. 2. Your recycling bin has become corrupt. See here for a guide on possible fixes: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;136517

Check your recycle bin option by right clicking on it you will see the option of direct deleting then uncheck it
1) Unless you hold the shift key down while deleting, if the "do not move files to the recycle bin" box isn't checked, they should go there. Files on external drives are deleted immediately, not sent to the recycle bin. 2) If they're moved to the recycle bin, they're not deleted until you empty the recycle bin. If they're not moved to the recycle bin, they're deleted. "Deleted" means that the file entry in the directory is marked deleted (a single byte change) and the space the file occupies is marked available. the file itself is still there. Only a "file shredding" or similar program actually overwrites the file itself. (And it can still be recovered in a lab after that.)
Files that are really big will automatically be completely deleted. If its not in the recycle bin and its not in the original folder, than its most likely gone for good.
