What changes should i do to the bios to get more from memory?
-
I bought recently a new computer and it seems little sluggish, I know it is not a heating problem as heating is covered with CoolIT ECO short circuit closed water cooling system. However, my system states that my memory is unpaired non ECC, but i think it is. So, under my bios, i should set couple of settings to make em go faster, but what settings? The modules themselfs are with heatsink units by factory defaults to optimize performance, Theres 3 12 cm coolers on the case etch... Heat is not the thing here. If theres somebody who knows how to do this, it appreceate. Underneath ios a list of my components and setup of component, version of bios, models etch. --- SiSoftware Sandra Computer Workgroup : MA**** Host Name : Dem****_****x User : *** Processor Model : AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor Speed : 3.65GHz Cores per Processor : 4 Unit(s) Threads per Core : 1 Unit(s) Type : Quad-Core Integrated Data Cache : 4x 64kB, Synchronous, Write-Back, 2-way, Exclusive, 64 byte line size L2 On-board Cache : 4x 512kB, ECC, Synchronous, Write-Back, 16-way, Exclusive, 64 byte line size L3 On-board Cache : 6MB, ECC, Synchronous, Write-Back, 48-way, 64 byte line size, 4 threads sharing Computer Mainboard : ASRock 890GX Extreme3 BIOS : AMI P2.40 06/18/2010 Bus(es) : X-Bus PCI PCIe USB FireWire/1394 Multi-Processor (MP) Support : No Multi-Processor Advanced PIC (APIC) : No Total Memory : 5.75GB DIMM DDR3 Chipset Model : ASRock RS780 Host Bridge Alternate Front Side Bus Speed : 2x 2.15GHz (4.3GHz) Total Memory : 128MB Shared Memory : 384MB Channels : 2 Memory Bus Speed : 2x 717MHz (1.43GHz) Chipset Model : AMD F10h Athlon 64/Opteron/Sempron HT Hub Front Side Bus Speed : 2x 2.15GHz (4.3GHz) Total Memory : 6GB DIMM DDR3 Channels : 2 Memory Bus Speed : 2x 573MHz (1.15GHz) Memory Module(s) Memory Module : SanMax Tri-Dark-160000000 2GB DIMM PC4200U Memory Module : SanMax Tri-Dark-160000000 2GB DIMM PC4200U Memory Module : SanMax Tri-Dark-160000000 2GB DIMM PC4200U Video System Video Adapter : ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series (800 SM5.0 875MHz, 1GB DDR5 4x1.23GHz, PCIe 2.00 x16) Video Adapter : ATI Radeon HD 4290 (40 SM4.1 850MHz, 384MB 2x667MHz, Integrated Graphics) Graphics Processor STREAM Processor : ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series (800SP 10C 875MHz, 1GB 4x1.23GHz) STREAM Processor : ATI Radeon HD 4290 (40SP 2C 850MHz, 384MB 2x667MHz, Integrated Graphics) Compute Shader Processor : ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series (800SP 875MHz, 1012.7MB 4x1.23GHz) Compute Shader Processor : ATI Radeon HD 4290 (40SP 850MHz, 371.2MB 2x667MHz, Integrated Graphics) Operating System Windows System : Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 6.01.7600 Platform Compliance : x64 Windows Experience Index Current System : 7.2 Performance Tips Warning 100 : Large memory sizes should be made of Registered/Buffered memory. Answer:
Your processor supports dual channel memory, this is what is meant by pairs. In order for the mobo to enable dual channel mode you need to have an even number of RAM modules. You can't make dual channel pairs with an odd number of modules and you can't only run some of the RAM in dual channel mode. So since you currently have 3 RAM modules, you either have to remove one module or add one so you end up with 2 or 4 modules. For best dual channel performance you should also buy paired memory modules. Paired modules are tested by the manufacturer to ensure they run correctly in dual channel mode. Actually the RAM in your setup would be better suited for a processor that supports triple channel memory, like some of the high-end Intel Core I7. Don't worry about ECC/Parity, almost all consumer level RAM modules don't support ECC, it is mainly used in servers or for people who do serious overclocking to ensure stability. It is not something that enhances performance.
